More about the Courses:

Technical Intro to Oil Painting

This is one of the most popular classes. Students learn what oil paint is, how it differs from other types of paint, the pro’s and con’s of these differences, the supplies needed to work with oils and finally, how to apply oil paint.

Students complete a painting. A great way to get back into painting or get started.

Mixing Color

Come to this course to learn how to mix any color you see. Learn the fundamental characteristics of color, how to identify these in a color, and how to manipulate them in paint. After instruction, you will successfully mix colors independently during the class. The medium for this class is acrylic paint. The principles apply to most paints and media.

Creating Three Dimensions

This class reveals the role of value in creating three-dimensional form and depth on the two-dimensional surface of a canvas or paper. Then we address how color relates to this form. Students complete one small painting.

Oil Painting

This is an on-going course. Students in this course learn the technical aspects of painting in oil and have the opportunity to apply these lessons to paintings of their own choice. The class meets once a week for three hours. We usually spend 3-6 weeks on one painting. Work at your own pace.

Paint Whatever You Want

This course focuses on achieving a certain product, the product you wish to create. This is project based and does not aim to create overall understandings of process. If you want to create a gift for someone, create a certain painting for your home, or paint a vision you are inspired to create. The instructor will guide you through the process. Often this class requires more than one session to achieve desired goals.

Abstract Processes

This is a fun and easy survey of a variety of mixed media techniques. Each student will create 8-10 baseball card sized works of art, referred to as Artists Trading Cards. We will focus on technique more than subject matter. Learn transfer techniques, layering techniques, abstract painting techniges, resists and more.  Artists Trading Cards are great pieces of art that are regularly traded among the artists who create them.

Painting for Children

Children will choose their own subject and complete an acrylic painting. They will learn the basic mechanics of painting. This includes how to use and care for brushes, how to apply paint in a neat and complete fashion and how to cover the surface for a beautiful finished product, worthy of framing.
